How do I know what brush and roller cover to buy?
Using the right brush or roller cover can make painting easier, and yield more professional results. Texas Paint offers a complete line of paint applicators for every job, whether you are a professional or do-it-yourselfer.
The following reference will help you choose the best tool to use in a given situation.
BRUSHES
1. Angle Sash – for painting trim, windows, and cutting in edges.
2. Thin Angle Sash – for detail work where brush control is important.
3. Flat Sash – for general painting on broad surfaces where quantity is important.
4. Varnish – for applying stains, varnishes and other thin coatings.
5. Wall – for general painting, especially exterior siding and trim.
Note: Paint brush sizes usually range from 1″ to 5″.
ROLLER COVERS
3/16″ nap
Use on smooth surfaces: doors, walls of un-textured plaster, smooth wood, wallboard, drywall, smooth metal; gloss and semi-gloss paints.
3/8″ to 1/2″ nap
Use on medium surfaces: sand finishes, lightly textured plaster or wood, paneling, acoustical tile; flat paints (smooth surfaces like drywall or tile with flat paints only).
3/4″ to 1″ nap
Use on rough surfaces: brick, concrete, stucco, textured ceilings or walls, Spanish plaster, corrugated metal, rough wood; flat paints.
Note: The nap of a roller cover is the thickness of the fabric used to roll the paint on the surface. Roller covers range in width from 4″ to 9″ and above.
